How To Make Fire Cider

Fire cider is my absolute favorite and (in my opinion) most effective way to boost the immune system. Fire cider or as some may call it “Fire tonic” contains all immunity boosting vegetables and herbs. Then, to take it to the next level we ferment it. Once fermented this spicy drink can be taken in shots or added to salads as a dressing. My son and I have a shot each day. Okay, so here's what you need and why:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar - has so many benefits but my personal favorite is it contains beneficial bacteria and prebiotics that has a huge impact on immune health. It also fights pathogens and reduces inflammation.

  • Horseradish - helps alleviate sinus congestion and headaches. Even chopping or grating horseradish has this effect. It also helps strengthen the immune system.

  • Ginger - helps with digestion, infections and nausea. It's also a fantastic immunity booster all while reducing inflammation and being a natural antibacterial.

  • Garlic - a secret superpower with antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. Garlic boosts the immune system and contains compounds that fights germs. (I eat these raw daily)

  • Onion - has similar properties to garlic but is also great for preventing (or recovering from) colds and flu. It's also a natural fever reducer and contains compounds that boosts the immune system .

  • Cayenne Pepper - helps move blood through your cardiovascular system. Blood circulation equals healing.

  • Jalapeno - High in Vitamin A and C as well as potassium. It's high in antioxidants and a natural pain reliever.
  • Turmericis a natural way to help bolster the immune system by increasing the immunomodulating capacity of the body.

Now that we know what we need and why, lets prepare.

Sprinkle 1tsp of organic cayenne pepper to the bottom of a mason jar

Peel organic ginger, horseradish, garlic and turmeric root and chop them into chunks. Add to a mason jar.

Slice organic onions and jalapenos and add to mason jar.

Fill mason jar with Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar ensuring all ingredients are covered.

Twist on lid and allow it to sit in a dark place for 6 weeks.

This drink is both spicy and sour but in the most perfect way. Kind of like wasabi, it’s so wrong but right. Either way, love it or hate it, you need this in your diet. I always have one in rotation to keep my son’s immune system strong as we are an anti-medication family. So make yourself a batch and take care of your immune system.
